Public Representative
Hilda Gaytan is a multifaceted leader and dedicated advocate for social and environmental justice. As Executive Director of Puente Latino Association, she leverages her expertise in sociology and urban design to develop transformative initiatives that integrate placemaking, community engagement, and art as catalysts for change. Her work focuses on providing alternatives for neighborhoods disproportionately affected by systemic inequities, reducing blight, promoting community cohesion, improving access to essential services, and fostering healthier, more resilient communities.
Ms. Gaytan chairs the City of Long Beach Climate Resilient and Sustainable City Commission and serves on the city’s Tree Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Advancing Peace Steering Committee, a crime prevention initiative, and the current President of the Downtown Lions Club of Long Beach. Additionally, she is a Master Gardener and a fellow of both the California Walking College and Arts for LA advocacy programs. Across her many roles, she champions environmental sustainability, safe communities, and community engagement, collaborating with local organizations and government agencies to create lasting change.
Ms. Gaytan’s honors include the 2021 Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Democrat of the Year and the 2024 Woman of Excellence for the 69th Assembly District. Under her leadership, Puente Latino was named a 2020 California Non-Profit of the Year and received the 2023 Heritage Award from the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Ms. Gaytan remains committed to her long-term vision of building a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable Long Beach, where every resident has access to a vibrant and healthy community.
