Mission & Values

Our Vision

We envision Long Beach as a thriving, diverse city that has abundant, community-governed, permanently affordable housing, land, and community spaces for all, especially those at the forefront of historical displacement and racism.

Our Mission

Long Beach Community Land Trust (LBCLT) is a member-led organization that works to create a dignified and healthy life for diverse communities in Long Beach by:

Developing Community Assets

Advocating through local public policy and coalition-building efforts to secure resources for the development of community assets.

Promoting Community Ownership

Developing permanently affordable housing and stewarding housing, land, and community spaces through community ownership models.

Building Community Power

Building community power through community gatherings, workshops, political education, and membership access to decision-making and resources for organizing.

Our Values

LBCLT exists to build collective power, secure permanently affordable housing, and place land back in the hands of the people. Our values are rooted in equity, community self-determination, respect, and care.

As a member-led organization, grounded in the diverse neighborhoods of Long Beach and surrounding communities, we are guided by these shared values:

Community Ownership & Collective Stewardship

We place land in permanent trust for the benefit of current and future generations. Through shared decision-making, residents steward their homes, communities, and future together.

Equity & Social Justice

We are committed to disrupting systems that perpetuate racial, economic, and environmental injustice. Our work centers on the working class and communities historically excluded from land and housing.

Interdependence & Community Care

We believe in collective wellbeing. Our movement is built on mutual support, empathy and intentional care for one another. We foster trust by practicing transparency, actively listening to one another, and having inclusive communication. We create space for healing, learning, and growing together.

Radical Imagination & Cultural Integrity

We honor the creative power that our communities have and hold. We always want to uplift culture, our diverse languages, and lived experiences for the source of knowledge, strength, and connection. We commit to continuously learning from each other as we build just systems of collective dignity for ourselves and our communities.

Grassroots Leadership & Participation

Our members shape our CLT’s direction, they hold us accountable, and have a seat at the table for decision-making within the organization. As a member-led organization, members have the agency and support to organize through committees to meet the community’s needs and the CLT’s vision for a just and thriving Long Beach.
